El último minuto de 2005 tendrá 61 segundos!!!!
La Riesenrad vuelve a la actividad, y lo hace a lo grande :) El último minuto de este año tendrá un segundo más, según el IERS (Servicio Internacional de la Rotación de la Tierra y Sistemas de Referencia).

El año 2005 será más largo. La Tierra gira más lento y los relojes de gran precisión se desfasan levemente, por lo que habrá que agregar tiempo extra el 31 de diciembre.
A fin de año deberán ser ajustados los relojes más puntuales del mundo. Los directivos del Servicio Internacional de Rotación de la Tierra y Sistemas de Referencia (International Earth Rotation and Reference Systems Service) tomaron una decisión que será acatada en todo el mundo que consiste en lo siguiente: se agregará un segundo al año 2005 para corregir pequeñas diferencias de velocidad en la rotación de la Tierra, cambios que han determinado una leve diferencia entre el lapso de duración del día y del tiempo oficial.
La razón es simple: la Tierra está girando algo más lento cada vez, por lo que hay que compensar este atraso con un segundo más.
El Servicio que se encarga de estos temas tiene su sede en París y se ocupa de coordinar este tipo de mediciones entre todos los países del mundo.
El concepto es el mismo que se usa para agregar un día en los llamados años bisiestos: cada cuatro años se suma un día a los 365 usuales para ajustar este corrimiento, un tipo de arreglos que es posible gracias a la precisión de los relojes atómicos que comenzaron a usarse hace unos cincuenta años.
De hecho, este vendría a ser el segundo segundo que se agrega —valga más que nunca la redundancia— a un año en la historia. El anterior fue sumado en el año 1998, y la primera vez que se decidió adoptar esta medida fue en el año 1972.
O sea, a las 23 horas, 59 minutos y 59 segundos del 31 de diciembre de este año deberá retrasarse un segundo el tiempo.
Teniendo en cuenta la diferencia horaria con Greenwich, en los países sudamericanos el "retraso" se producirá algo más tarde. Por ejemplo, en Argentina, el segundo adicional pasará a computarse en 2006, a las 02:59:59 del 1 de enero.
Otra de las alternativas planteadas es "hacer retroceder las agujas del reloj en una hora cuando la variación horaria haya acumulado un retraso de más de media hora. Según nuestros cálculos, eso ocurrirá en el año 2600", explicó Axel Nothnagel, de la Universidad de Bonn.
La introducción del segundo adicional podría generar problemas en computadoras interconectadas a nivel internacional, por lo que existe una gran presión por parte de especialistas norteamericanos, especialmente, para que se reemplace por otro método más sencillo.
Y lo que digo yo: si este año el último minuto tiene un segundo más, ¿tendremos también una uva más?¿Será ésa la de la suerte? :))
